Where it really shines is how well it handles it's violent situations and characters. This is mostly due to the fact that the only scenes containing elements of torture, violence, hacking, sawing, and pretty much any other disgustingly gory act you can possibly think of are so brief and inventive in it's own sorta way, that after a while, it becomes normal within the show's confined universe.
