The project will build upon and enhance existing plans for the area by developing a community vision and identifying a variety of tools to achieve this vision. Through a wide variety of public meetings, consultants gathered that the community wants to preserve its rural character, enhance its outdoor recreation activities, and consider ways to contain commercial development to existing corridors like Asheville Highway and Strawberry Plains Pike. The Change Center is a 5. Save Our Sons Initiative under Mayor Rogero.

Save Our Sons focuses on reducing violence related deaths and increasing opportunities for success among boys and young men of color and is part of a larger, national network of mayors called Cities United. The Change Center was created by youth as a key strategy in averting that violence. The Change Center is a safe, strategically located, center- city partnership facility that provides relational, recreational, leadership development, and jobs initiatives for teens and young adults in an attractive, fun environment. Components of the Change Center include a roller skating rink, a rock climbing wall, video games, movie wall, concession venue, and the entrepreneurial center that houses the jobs initiatives. East TN Community Design Center graciously provided initial concept drawings for the Change Center. The Architect for the project is Damon Falconnier of Falconnier Design and the General Contractor for the project is Mark Deathridge of East TN Mechanical Contractors.

Updated Volunteer Selection Process. The East Tennessee Community Design Center is able to provide low/no- cost design services to non- profit and community- based organizations because of generous pro bono assistance from area design and development professionals. Without their help, we could not accomplish our mission. Professionals in the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, interior design, planning, real estate development and construction, who express their willingness to volunteer, will be notified of available projects based upon their self- defined areas of expertise. We have updated our volunteer selection document and streamlined the process so that people can easily get in touch with us.
